Use with Nikon D40
I've found that this remote doesn't work 100% well with my Nikon D40. I don't know if other cameras are more receptive, but I find with the D40 it's very directional, sometimes even to the point of having to hold it fairly close (but not too close) to the shutter button to get it to actually fire the shutter. It never works on any side of the camera except the right-hand side with the shutter button (presumably where the infra-red sensors are).
It's still a very useful thing, it's just initially figuring out where to point it (and it seems to vary as to precisely where on the right side of the camera that is) can get annoying, and may cause you to miss "the shot". If you want to use this to get action shots and want to be 100% sure that it will fire the shutter with every press, I would avoid it and get a cable release instead.
Remote shutter release
I have a Nikon D40 and as you are unable to use cable release with it (clever of them!)I bought this remote control, mainly for long exposures, and it is excellent. I learnt from Ken Rockwells website that you can change the amount of time the camera waits for the remote to be used, this is not in my camers instruction book, but is handy to know as the default time is not long and you have to reset everything if the camera turns off. I'm glad I bought it, it's a handy gadget, and good for the self timer mode too.
Very useful
Works up to 5m, very handy to take several pics withou going to and from. The case can be attached to the camera strap to have it always handy. Very happy with it.
Good bit of kit, with limits. 
This is a really good gadget. I use it to take long-exposure shots while my D70 is mounted on a gorillapod, which virtually eliminates any form of camera shake.
The only draw back I have found is the the remote does not always work from behind or from the side of the D70, you have to try and 'bounce' the beam off walls etc to get the shutter to operate - this is the only reason it doesn't get 5 stars.
On the other hand, as long as you can see the front of the camera, it works 100% of the time.

Fantastic, cheap what more can i say.. works great, only thing is about the bulb, you cant shoot in bulb mode with it.. but i don't use bulb too much so isn't a huge issue to be honest.
Otherwise id recommend, most useful thing I've every brought :)
