Dumbed-down, trans-Atlantic trash. ![]()
This book is such a disorganised, dumbed-down mess that I have to recommend looking elsewhere. Having said that, there is useful content, but trying to find it is nigh-on impossible.
For example, the Contents is supposed to give a clear indication of the contents of a book. Isn't it? How are we supposed to know what aspect of DHTML the chapter entitled "The Path To Success" covers? Or topics within chapters, such as "Low-sparkled, high-heel boys"! What? Would you have guessed that it concerns a DHTML feature called transitions? I certainly didn't. Note that these are not the exceptions; the entire system of naming chapters and topics is like that. The only way to find information is to use the index.
Also, it's not a tutorial, so if you expect to led, hand-in-hand, through an easy-to-read, understandable, well-written introduction to DHTML...forget it.
Fortunately I borrowed a copy from my local library.
You can find better! ![]()
As I bought this book knowing zero about D-HTML, it was a decent introduction, but became increasingly frustrating as I began to understand how D-HTML works. The major problem (aside from some code snippets not working) is that examples for effects are presented for either MSIE only or for Netscape only. Very seldom is code shown that will work for both. As a web developer, developong for only 1 browser is not an option! This book is great if ALL you'll develop for is MSIE -- but if you want compatability with Netscape, buy another book!
